1993
Gateway Recycling was founded in Columbia Station by Tom Sustersic. What began as a small operation quickly grew with the support of his wife, Cindi, who originally joined to “help out in the office” and has been an integral part of the business ever since.
1995
1997
Added plastics and aluminum cans to their recycling capabilities
1998
2001
Opened processing facility in Toledo, Ohio, located just off Water Street.
2006
Expanded into a 155,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility in Cleveland, Ohio.
2008 - 2009
Sandy Palmier, Tom’s daughter, and her husband, Ryan Palmier, joined the family business to support its continued growth and legacy.
2010
2012
Gateway Recycling expanded operations to Pennsylvania opening a processing facility in Zelienople, PA
2013
Tommy Sustersic, Tom’s son, joined the family business to lead and manage Gateway’s Pennsylvania operations.
2016
2017
Brittany Sustersic, Tommy Sustersic‘s wife, joined the accounting team to support Gateway’s continued growth and expansion.
2023
With a rich tradition of excellence, innovation and commitment to people Gateway will continue to lead the Midwest in recycling and secure shredding.
