1993

Gateway Recycling was founded in Columbia Station. Led by Tom Sustersic. Tom’s Wife, Cindi, came in to ‘help out in the office’ and never left

1995

Moved into 40,000 square-foot facility in Cleveland, Ohio to keep up with business demand

1997

Added plastics and aluminum cans to their recycling capabilities

1998

Started confidential document destruction operation

2001

Opened a processing facility in Toledo, Ohio, off Water Street

2006

Upgraded to a 155,000-square-foot facility in Cleveland, Ohio

2008 - 2009

Sandy Palmier (Tom’s daughter) & Ryan Palmier (Tom’s Son-in-law) joined the family business

2010

Toledo Gateway expands its operations from Water Street to Navarre Ave plant, and new equipment is purchased designed to make the facility more efficient

2012

Gateway Recycling expanded operations to Pennsylvania opening a processing facility in Zelienople, PA

2013

Tommy Sustersic (Tom’s Son) joined the business to run the Pennsylvania operation

2016

As business rapidly grew, Gateway Recycling moved its recycling operations from Zelienople, PA., to a larger facility in Robinson, PA

2017

Brittany Sustersic (Tom’s Wife) joins our accounting team to support our growth

2023

Gateway celebrated their 30th anniversary as a family-owned recycler
